Dorset Clean Energy Super Cluster Launched at UKREiif 25 – Wed 21 May 2025

Home of the largest onshore oil field in Western Europe and nuclear innovation, Dorset can transition away from oil and gas and provide solutions to lock away a gigatonne of carbon, provide nationally significant hydrogen storage. Complemented by deep fixed offshore wind in the English Channel, strategic port infrastructure and new heavy duty port development to enable a new wind hub port, and SMR facilities at Winfrith, Dorset can power a new future for its community and can inspire a new generation of engineers.

With its unique geography and geology, coupled with its deep-water and sheltered port with direct access to the English Channel, Dorset is a prime location for international energy investment in offshore wind as part of the Celtic Sea Cluster as well as carbon capture and storage, hydrogen technologies and nuclear energy innovation.

Portland Port, Devon

The Dorset Clean Energy Super Cluster was formed to help harness this immense potential and catapult the investment opportunity onto a national and international stage.

Having launched the conversation on a national platform at UKREiiF 25 with our international investors set ready, our priority is to align regulatory processes, accelerate delivery, stimulate transformation and create real benefits for the community and UK plc.

We can’t achieve this without the alignment of regulatory processes and the conditions for growth in order to kick start delivery. The Cluster is committed to working with Government at a local (Dorset Council UK and BCP Council) and national level to help find ways to remove barriers.

We’ve put Dorset firmly on the Clean Energy map.  It’s now time to reshape and align regulatory processes and elevate the UK onto the same platform for investment potential as other countries, create fast track solutions and deliver.
