Dorset Council has announced significant appointments for Dorset Innovation Park Ltd, the company responsible for managing the county’s only Enterprise Zone. The park is set to play a pivotal role in driving growth across south Dorset, with a focus on clean energy, defence innovation, and AI technology.
Kevin Forshaw will take on the role of Managing Director from October 2025. With an extensive background in maritime innovation and research, Kevin has led numerous projects in areas such as cyber-security, renewable energy, and marine robotics. His experience includes securing substantial funding for collaborative research and establishing innovation centres recognised internationally for their excellence.
David Happy MBE has been appointed as Chair of the board. A seasoned telecoms professional with 38 years of experience, David has held senior roles, including Vice President at Samsung EU R&D Labs. His expertise in the tech sector, combined with his ties to Dorset, positions him well to guide the park’s strategic direction.
The company board also welcomes several Non-Executive Directors, each bringing valuable expertise. Alice McAlpine, a solicitor specialising in governance and urban regeneration, has a wealth of experience advising on large-scale infrastructure and innovation projects. Claire Pearce, a strategic leader with over 30 years of experience, has been nationally recognised for her work on complex projects such as Hinkley Point C and the Gravity Enterprise Zone. Mark Ovens, a commercial property expert, has a strong background in data centres, AI, and bioprocessing engineering. Dr Greig Paul, a technical advisor with expertise in energy, telecoms, and defence, brings a deep understanding of innovative technologies. Ian Smith, a telecoms veteran with decades of experience in both government and private sectors, adds further depth to the board’s capabilities.
Dorset Innovation Park, already home to 800 jobs, aims to create an additional 300 roles by 2029. The park will focus on attracting businesses in advanced engineering, marine, defence, and energy sectors, positioning itself as a hub for innovation and economic growth. The council views the Enterprise Zone as a key driver for the region’s development, with Dorset Innovation Park Ltd tasked with advancing opportunities in clean energy and cutting-edge technologies.
Kevin Forshaw expressed his enthusiasm for the role, highlighting the park’s potential to drive technological advancements and create high-value jobs. Dorset Council Leader Nick Ireland emphasised the importance of these appointments, noting that the skills and experience of the new team will be instrumental in attracting investment and ensuring the park’s success
